Hi Ali, let’s start with you. How long have you been with Roche, what is your current role, and what did you do before your time here?
I joined Roche in 2019, starting as an intern. Shortly after, I was able to take over a project in the Calibration department, where I was subsequently responsible for compliance. Since August 2025, I have been serving as a Unit Lead in Calibration.
Although I now work in Engineering, I actually have a completely different background. I hold a degree in Law and Economics, and before joining Roche, I gained experience working as a legal professional.
How did you first learn about the AVR?
I first heard about the AVR during my onboarding, and as soon as I received my permanent contract, I signed up as a member.
What motivated you to run as an AVR Site Representative?
With my legal background and experience in production, I felt I could make a valuable contribution to the AVR. Additionally, I genuinely enjoy supporting people and helping them navigate issues that can arise in the workplace.
I was also very interested in getting a look “behind the scenes” of the AVR, so I decided to put myself forward as a candidate in the last election.
What are your first impressions in this new role? What did you expect, and has anything surprised you?
The AVR does highly important work. I knew that employee consultations and inquiries would be part of the job, but I was very surprised by just how many there are. In addition, you gain a very good and detailed insight into how consultation processes work during organizational changes.
I had already heard about the strong cooperation within the AVR Board, but I have been very pleasantly surprised by how warm and collegial the interactions among the team members truly are.
What do you like to do outside of Roche?
In my free time, I love spending time with friends and family. Since the pandemic, I’ve also discovered a passion for dancing. After a long period of working from home, I wanted to try something new, so I signed up for a salsa course. Today, I mainly dance Salsa and Bachata, as well as the occasional Kizomba (which is a dance originating from Angola).
