Cross-border commuters, but also newcomers to Switzerland from Germany and France, have to deal with a wide range of issues relating to the tax, legal and insurance systems of the different countries. It is sometimes helpful to find addresses where you can get competent advice. The AVR lists a number of law firms and agencies that AVR members can contact under the following headings.
For the tax return in Germany, cross-border commuters need the “Contribution statement for cross-border commuters” and the amount of the supplementary compulsory insurance; to calculate this, simply use the Excel file provided under “Useful downloads” (disclaimer: the AVR does not guarantee the accuracy of the calculation).
However, the AVR expressly makes no recommendations, and there are no discount agreements. Furthermore, the AVR accepts no liability whatsoever for the information provided via www.avroche.ch.

Legal and social insurance advice
The AVR was offered by a group of independent cooperation partners to provide interested AVR members with advice on legal and social security issues at favourable conditions.
Andreas Schiek from the agency Eurojureconsult offers advice on social insurance, which can be particularly helpful if employees have acquired pension entitlements in different countries.
Gerd Ipen runs a company in Basel Law firm for German law and advises both clients from Germany who work in Switzerland as cross-border commuters and Germans who live in Switzerland.
Health insurance
French cross-border commuters are primarily dependent on the legislation of their country of employment (Switzerland) for their health insurance cover.
As soon as he/she takes up employment, the new cross-border commuter is obliged to join the Swiss health insurance system (basic insurance) within 3 months.
However, Switzerland allows cross-border commuters to be exempted from this obligation and allows them to be insured in their country of residence (health insurance cover offered by CPAM, among others, for Swiss cross-border commuters under the CMU).
